If you like my artwork and the way I paint portraits, you can have your, or the portrait of your dear one`s made. Simply contact me through telephone or by e-mail.
Portraiture is greatly different from other types of painting, and I think that it is the most fascinating area of the art. In the last few years, I`ve made over two hundred portraits in different techniques. However, I approach every following painting with even more interest and I apply new knowledges. The art of oil-painting in time proved to be very powerful and lasting; therefore, it is the only technique that I use.
As well as the majority of the contemporary portraitists, I paint according to the photograph of a person I want to portray. In my opinion, this is the easiest way to present the personality of the individual that I`m portraying. All the paintings that you can see in the Portrait gallery were made according to the photographs I personally took. Since I`m actively engaged in photography, I`m very well acquainted with different natural and artificial light sources. Most importantly, I know what their advantages are and how to engage them in the painting composition. The position of the light source, it`s temperature, shape and dimensions affect drastically overall impression of the portraited character. If you decide to make a portrait, and let me take a referente photography, we can discuss desirable pose, dimension of a painting, background, prevailing coloring and clothes. We can take photographs in studio with adequate lighting or we can take them at a place of your choice. In that case, we will use natural light sources.
To make Kijara`s portrait, I took photographs in controlled surroundings. Amongst other, I took these pictures:

This was my favourite so I used it in my further work.
To begin with, I made a few rough drafts on the paper, and then I started detailed sketching on the canvas. I chose canvas dimensions 50x70 cm; this is also the smallest canvas that I use to paint portraits.
The next step is the underpainting in very diluted, dark, earth colours that dry very fast; then I can put the next layer of the paint.
When the whole canvas is covered, I finish details that determine resemblance of the portraited person.
Approximately ten days after the beginning of the painting, and after careful observation, I make last brush-strokes and sign the portrait. It takes about a week for the top layer of the paint to dry and then the client can take the portrait. After six months, in case it`s necessary, I can lacquer the painting with "Damar lacquer" free of charge. This will make the painting even more lasting and give the colours additional glare.
Finally, you can order a portrait as a present or to surprise someone. In case it`s not possible to take a photo as I prefer it, we can use your photograph. The photos should be high-quality, with enough details, or they can be in digital form, as well.
